GARDAI have not ruled out murder in their inquiry into the death of an elderly Galway city woman whose body was found in suspicious circumstances last Wednesday.

Mrs Mary Morgan (81), of Bohermore, was buried at the New Cemetery across the road from her home following Requiem Mass in St Patrick's Church on Saturday morning.

A post mortem carried out at University College Hospital by Dr Charles Connolly revealed that the dead woman had sustained injuries to her legs, forehead and face.

"While we still cannot rule out the possibility that she had a fall, the circumstances of her death suggest that she may, have confronted an intruder said a senior Garda spokesman yesterday.

A team of gardai carried out widespread searches of Bohermore following the discovery of her body at the back of her home. They expect to have the results of forensic tests within the next few days.

House to house inquiries are continuing in the Galway inner city in an effort to find witnesses who may have noticed any suspicious activity late last Tuesday night.

Mrs Morgan was last seen alive at about 8 p.m. on Tuesday. Gardai believe an intruder may have entered her house late on Tuesday night and may have followed her out into her back garden, where her body was discovered the following day Mrs Morgan is thought to have died shortly after midnight.
