Forecast good for Forbidden Fruit

The weather forecast for Dublin’s first urban festival looks good for the estimated 30,000 fans who are expected for this weekend.

Fans can enjoy the prospect of dry and warm weather though it will not be as hot or as sunny as recently, and Saturday looks the best day.

Forbidden Fruit started last year and, though there was teething problems with the bar on the first night, it was deemed a success by the organisers POD concerts.

There will be three times as many bar staff on this year to ensure that the queues for the beer tents are kept to a minimum.

This year’s headliners will be dance act Leftfield on Saturday night, New Order on Sunday and Wilco on Monday night with the indication that both Saturday and Sunday night will sell-out.

There will also be a comedy stage for the first time with headline acts by Ardal O’Hanlon, Late Night Gimp Fight and Dead Cat Bounce.

There will be free Wifi on sight for fans to tweet about the event and free buses into Dublin city centre.

Bulmers marketing director Stephen Kent said the festival was only beginning to fulfil its potential and the site was big enough to accommodate many more activities. He said they had a four year plan in place to build it up into something special.

The festival is being promoted by POD. Its booking agent Declan Forde said the festival is in response to trends towards urban festivals as many people do not have the money or the time for camping festivals at present.

He said the €49.50 cost of a day ticket constitutes good value given the number of acts involved.

Punters have been advised to use public transport as the proximity of Bloom in the Phoenix Park is likely to cause a lot of congestion in the area.
