To mark the centenary of MacNeice's birth, Carrickfergus Museum is mounting an exhibition that includes, among other things, his christening mug, a letter written by him while a schoolboy at Sherborne, and letters from him to Mary Wimbush. Queen's University Belfast is organising a conference, to run from September 12th to 15th. Contributors include Jon Stallworthy, Edna Longley and Peter McDonald. The conference ends with visits to Carrickfergus and to Carrowdore, Co Down, where MacNeice's ashes lie alongside the grave of his mother, Lily (Elizabeth). His wife Hedli was subsequently interred there.
At the Queen's University Welcome Centre, BBC Northern Ireland is mounting an exhibition entitled Castles on the Air, celebrating the life and work of the poet, to run from September 13th to October 31st. Admission is free.
BBC Radio 3 is running a documentary about MacNeice at 9.30pm on September 9th. BBC Radio Ulster's Arts Extra programme will devote each day to Louis MacNeice, starting September 10th at 6.30pm.
