Five people were taken to hospital last night and treated for smoke inhalation after a fire broke out at the Rahoon Flats in Galway city. Another three people were rescued by the fire brigade, two units of which brought the blaze under control. The fire broke out shortly after 11 p.m. in one of several unoccupied flats due for demolition.
