Five people face extradition after being arrested during a series of raids yesterday targeting organised crime in the Dublin region. Twenty-one people were arrested and more than 50 searches conducted. They were carried out as part of Operation Wireless, which was established by Garda Commissioner Martin Callinan.

Four men and a woman were arrested on foot of European arrest warrants. The woman and one of the men were taken to Blanchardstown Garda station, while the other three men were being held in Kilmainham, Bridewell and Ashbourne Garda stations.

They are wanted in other European countries, including France, Poland and Lithuania, for a variety of alleged crimes. Other arrests were made for drug and theft offences.

A Garda spokeswoman said the operation, which involved the Criminal Assets Bureau, the Garda Bureau of Fraud Investigation,the National Bureau of Criminal Investigation, the Garda National Drug Unit and regional detective units, is ongoing.
