Gardai  in Cork have arrested five people, including a woman, in connection with the murder of a young father of one on the north side of the city earlier this month.

John Butler (20), Knocknaheeny Avenue, Cork, was walking home with his girlfriend Rachel in the early hours of the morning last October 7th when he was shot by a man wearing a balaclava.

Mr Butler crawled towards a car at Gurranabraher Road in an attempt to shield himself from his attacker, but his injuries were too severe and he was pronounced dead a short time later at a local hospital.

Four men were arrested at various locations on the north side of Cork city on Saturday in connection with the murder. They were being detained yesterday at stations in Gurranabraher and Mayfield.
