The Naval Service vessel LE Róisín was last night escorting to port a British-registered and Spanish-crewed fishing vessel detained off the southwest coast for alleged technical breaches of fishing regulations.

The vessel was detained some 33 nautical miles off the coast of Mizen Head in Co Cork.

It was being escorted by the LE Róisín to Castletownbere, where arrangements were in place to hand it over to the Garda Síochána.

A week ago the LE Róisín carried out a similar operation and detained a Spanish-registered vessel off the coast of Co Clare.
