KIEV - Fire swept through several villages in an abandoned area around the Chernobyl nuclear power plant yesterday but there were no casualties and no rise in radioactivity from the facility, officials said. The fire, believed to be due to accidental causes unconnected with Chernobyl power station itself, happened just three days ahead of the 10th anniversary of the world's worst civilian nuclear disaster at the plant.
