The final day of the Oxegen music festival is under way at Punchestown Racecourse in Co Kildare with The Killers, Lady Gaga, Razorlight and Nine Inch Nails among the acts taking to the stage.

Some 88,000 people are estimated to have attended the festival since it kicked off on Friday afternoon, even though Oxegen's long standing relationship with nasty weather has continued over the weekend.

The festival campsites took a battering last night from heavy rain and strong winds, with some of those in attendance electing to retreat to their cars to get some sleep rather than brave the wet and increasingly soft conditions.

However, the weather eased this morning and Met Éireann is predicted sunny spells, temperatures of up to 21 celsius and some scattered showers later today.

The Kings of Leon closed the main stage last night and paid tribute to the large crowd who braved the rain to see them headline the festival for the second successive year.

Lead singer Caleb Followill said: "You guys have been wonderful. This is the gig we've been looking forward to most this year."

Actress Natalie Portman, pint-sized Stereophonics frontman Kelly Jones and Pete Doherty were among those who gathered to take in The Kings of Leon set.

Gardai have arrested 91 people since the event got underway on Thursday. The arrests were made for a range of offences including public order, road traffic, assault, theft and offences under the Misuse of Drugs Act.

A man arrested yesterday after a 28-year-old man sustained injuries, apparently after being struck in the neck by a bottle, was released without charge yesterday evening. A file is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Gardaí also said both the red and blue car parks are full and have advised anyone attending the event today to use the the Park & Ride facilities in Goffs off the M7.
