Gardai in Cork have confirmed that a file has been sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions concerning a man involved in a hit-and-run incident in Cork city last Sunday morning in which a woman was killed.

Mrs June Atkins, a mother of three children, was returning with her husband, John, to her home in Ballyphehane and was crossing the road when struck by a stolen car travelling at speed.

A man was arrested at the scene, a second gave himself up to gardai, and a third arrested at his home last Thursday was questioned. He was later later released without charge.

It is understood the file for the DPP concerns the third man.
