Fianna Fáil has called on the Government to intervene immediately in the dispute between Bus Éireann and its staff which could cause disruption to services from the weekend.
Spokesman on transport Timmy Dooley said management should be asked to withdraw “proposals to change the terms and conditions . . . for workers until such time as face to face negotiations have concluded”.
Two unions at the company, the NBRU and TSSA, have voted for industrial action if management proceed with plans to implement changes from the weekend.
Siptu is to announce the results of its ballot on industrial action today. It has warned that any action could spread to other CIÉ companies such as Dublin Bus and Iarnród Éireann. The company has warned that without remedial action it faces losses of €16 million this year.
Unions say staff could lose €60 to €70 per week as a result of the proposals which include changes to overtime rates, shift and premium payments, reductions in annual leave and a longer working week.
