London - Mr Mohamed Al Fayed yesterday agreed to pay the widow of Mr Tiny Rowland more than £1.4 million after giving up his court battle over gemstones "stolen" during break-ins at the former Lonrho head's safety deposit box at Harrods.

Mr Christopher Moger QC, representing Ms Josephine Rowland, who took over the action when her husband died two years ago, said the Harrods owner had capitulated and agreed to submit to judgment for the whole sum claimed.
