A FATHER has begun legal proceedings in Northern Ireland against Facebook after “sexually suggestive” photographs of his 12-year-old daughter were posted on her page.

The social networking site requires members to be aged over 13, but it does not ask for proof of age. The photographs of the girl that appeared were “sexually suggestive”, solicitor Hilary Carmichael said.

The writ lodged at a Belfast court on Monday accuses the company of being “guilty of negligence” and creating “a risk of sexual and physical harm” to the child in question.

The solicitor described the case as “potentially groundbreaking”.
