The death of a 41-year-old man in a crash at the weekend brings to 54 the number of people killed this year on the roads.

The death of a 41-year-old man in a crash at the weekend brings to 54 the number of people killed this year on the roads.

Rosslare gardaí are investigation the incident in which the man was fatally injured when the car in which he was a passenger collided with a truck.

The crash occurred at Churchtown, Kilrane, Rosslare, Co Wexford, at about 6.30pm on Saturday.

The victim was named locally as John "Jacko" Walsh from Ballygillane, Rosslare Harbour.

The driver of the car was seriously injured and taken to Wexford General Hospital. The driver of the lorry was not injured.

Gardaí at Rosslare have appealed for witnesses to contact them at 053-65202.

Mr Walsh is the 11th passenger to be killed this year. Of the 54 fatalities since January 1st, 26 were drivers, 15 pedestrians, one was a cyclist and one a motorcyclist.

The 54 deaths marks an increase of six on the number of people killed in the same period last year.
