A farmer died after falling more than nine metres (30ft ) in the Kerry mountains while checking on his sheep in Bonane last July, an inquest into his death heard yesterday.

Patrick Healy (71), Eardeen, Bonane, had left his home at about 8.30pm to do his normal inspection of his flock. When he did not return, his daughter raised the alarm.

He was found by a local searcher at 2.15am on July 13th. He had suffered severe head injuries and had died instantly, the inquest heard.

The jury returned a verdict of accidental death.
