The FAI confirmed today a player who competes in the eircom League has tested positive in a random test for a banned substance under the Association's Doping Control Regulations.
The FAI has referred the matter to the Independent Doping Tribunal, which comprises a senior legal practitioner, a medical practitioner and a sports administrator.
The tribunal will determine whether a doping offence has been committed and, if so, ascertain the appropriate penalty to be imposed in the case in question.
The player in question will not be named until a satisfactory conclusion to the process is reached.

Random drug testing has been a routine part of these procedures and was introduced by the FAI in 2002.
