London - The former Labour Cabinet minister Lord Shore of Stepney, has died in a London hospital aged 77

London - The former Labour Cabinet minister Lord Shore of Stepney, has died in a London hospital aged 77. As Peter Shore he served as a minister under both Harold Wilson and James Callaghan. He was first picked by Wilson as his parliamentary private secretary in 1965 and quickly rose up the ministerial ranks to become Secretary of State for Economic Affairs in 1967.

When Wilson was re-elected in 1974 he was made Trade Secretary, and headed the Department of the Environment under Mr Callaghan. He became a life peer in 1997, and in recent years he has been a fierce critic of the EU.
