The journalist Mr Maurice Hearne has died at the age of 64

The journalist Mr Maurice Hearne has died at the age of 64. He was a sub-editor and a columnist with Independent Newspapers for many years. He retired last year.

He began his journalistic career as a sub-editor in The Irish Press. Colleagues at the time included the present Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mr Andrews, Mr Justice Hugh O'Flaherty of the Supreme Court and actor Frank Kelly. Mr Hearne also worked in London for the Press Association, the Financial Times and the Daily Mirror.
