Sven-Goran Eriksson has criticised the English FA for making public their offer of a new contract to the England boss, according to the Swede's agent.

The FA yesterday revealed they want Eriksson to pledge his future to the national team until 2008 - two years beyond his current commitment.

Eriksson feels the FA's move will put him under pressure from the media to make a quick decision over the extended deal.

Several newspapers have taken a view that the FA's contract offer is designed to force Eriksson's hand amid speculation he will join Chelsea after Euro 2004.

Eriksson's agent, Athole Still, told Sky Sports News: "To be absolutely blunt, his first reaction was one of disappointment - not disappointment at the offer, but that it had been made public.

"He told me on Monday that the offer had been made to him verbally. . . . I've known him for something like 17 years and he'll take his time about these things. But now it is out in the open, the first question at every press conference is going to be `have you signed your new contract yet Sven?' Which is the last thing that he needs."

Eriksson has made it clear in the past that he misses the day-to-day involvement of club football. That has led to him being linked with moves to Manchester United, Real Madrid and, more recently, Chelsea.
