Snow in North as temperatures to drop to minus 5 overnight

Freezing fog expected tonight, motorists warned to drive with caution

This morning’s frost has cleared and scattered showers are expected to continue throughout the day in the North and West. Sleet and snow expected on higher ground and Northern hills, with reports of snowfall near Carrickfergus.

Weather remains cold and breezy, with highest temperatures of 3 to 7 degrees.

Motorists have been warned to continue to drive with caution on the M1 where conditions were dangerous earlier after overnight rain froze on the route.

There are no weather warnings in place. According to Met Éireann wintry showers will die out this evening.

Tonight will be very cold and dry and temperatures will fall to between minus 2 to minus 5 degrees with widespread severe frost and icy stretches.

Met Éireann also warned there will also be patches of freezing fog.
