Engineers to meet on latest Dublin flooding

THE OFFICE of Public Works (OPW) and Dublin City Council are to meet this month in relation to flooding which caused tens of thousands of euro in damage to houses in north Dublin last week.

Council engineers last night met with Donnycarney residents who had to be evacuated from their homes last Thursday after flood waters rose four feet.

For more than 20 residents of Clanmoyle Road, Donnycarney, last week was the second time their properties were severely damaged by floods in less than a year.

“These people’s houses are now effectively worthless. In some cases their house insurance has been withdrawn and no incoming purchaser is going to get insurance,” said local Labour councillor Aodhan Ó Riordáin.

Local Fianna Fáil TD Seán Haughey said he had met Martin Mansergh, who has responsibility for the OPW. “He is of the opinion that if the technical issues are sorted out there is every possibility that the financial contribution will be borne by the OPW.”
