Seven teenagers and a school bus driver were taken to hospital yesterday evening after a bus and a waste disposal lorry were involved in a collision in Co Roscommon.

Two separate investigations are taking place into the collision at Clashaganny, Tulsk.

The bus was taking pupils home from schools in Strokestown. All the injuries suffered are believed to be relatively minor, with one student suffering a suspected broken jaw.

"Our investigation is underway to ascertain how the accident happened. The injured were all removed to Roscommon county hospital," said Ken Bryan, area manager of Bus Éireann. The bus involved was part of its fleet.

Gardaí are also conducting an investigation. Both vehicles were taken away for examination.

Severe traffic disruption followed the collision, with motorists being diverted away from the scene and through Castlerea and Strokestown.
