Schools in Mayo and Louth win Credit Union Schools’ Quiz

More than 25,000 children took part

More than 25,000 children took part in this year’s All-Ireland Credit Union Schools’ Quiz and they were whittled down to 400 for the final in Dublin’s RDS yesterday.

Some 100 teams competed for the national quiz title but only two teams came out on top. Quay National School, Ballina, Co Mayo won the competition for under 11-year-olds while Le Chéile Educate Together in Drogheda, Co Louth won the competition for 11-13-year olds.

The quiz, now in its 23rd year, was run throughout the winter by volunteers from credit unions affiliated to the Irish League of Credit Unions.

The questions for the quiz are compiled by primary school teachers and cover topics such as geography, history, music, literature and sport.
