The Retired Secondary Teachers Association will meet in the Teachers' Club, Parnell Square, Dublin, tomorrow morning to discuss pension parity. The association, which is currently campaigning on the issue, will hold its agm starting at 11 a.m.

Sean Geraghty, acting secretary of the RSTA and chairman of the Public Service Pensions Action Group, explains. "Teachers who are retired will not receive full parity of pension because the long service increment is deemed a personal allowance. Teachers are losing out," he adds. "There has been a general clawback on this issue. We were assured as public servants that we would get parity." A recruitment drive is also on the agenda: the RSTA wants to recruit as many new members as possible to join its ranks, which currently number about 200. A concerted drive has already got underway.

Tomorrow's meeting will also consider the possibility of inviting retired teachers who are members of religious orders to join the association. Geraghty says all secondary teachers who have retired or who are about to retire may contact the association by writing to him at 71 Sutton Park, Dublin 13.
