John Polkinghorne (Cambridge University), one of the world's leading thinkers on religion and science, will give a public lecture entitled "Human Personhood: the Context of Hominid Evolution" in the lecture Theatre, Milltown Institute, Sandford Road, Dublin 6, this evening at 7pm.

Lunchtime Lecture at the Hunt Museum, Limerick

Andy McCarthy will give a lecture on the work of Limerick-born artist Sean Keating today at 1pm. A number of Keating's paintings related to the "Shannon Scheme" at Ardnacrusha, near Limerick. The Hunt Museum currently has one of these paintings, Night's Candles are Burnt Out, on loan. Admission is free. All welcome

Volunteer teaching in Uganda

Calling all those interested in volunteer teaching in Uganda for five weeks this summer?

Link Community Development (www.lcd.ie) focuses on school improvement programmes within rural schools in Uganda, Ethiopia, Ghana, Malawi and South Africa. To complement the school improvement work, Irish primary teachers are being offered the opportunity to join Link's "Global Teachers' Programme" which involves a five-week placement in a rural school in Kamwenge District, Uganda. Technology Teachers' Conference

The TechnoTeachers' Association, which represents teachers of technology subjects, is holding its annual conference in the Clonmel Park Hotel, Co Tipperary on Friday, February 29th and Saturday, March 1st. The conference will consist of an annual general meeting on Friday night, together with a gathering of graduates from 1978, 1988, and 1998. On Saturday there will be an exhibition of trade stands, workshops, presentations and national student awards.

Open Day at St Dominican College, Blackrock, Co Dublin Dominican College, Sion Hill, Blackrock, Co Dublin, which celebrated refurbishment of the concert hall with a concert attended by the President, Mrs Mary McAleese, last week, is opening the hall to the public during an open day at the school on Sunday, February 24th from 2pm to 5pm. All are welcome.

International Council for Traditional Music - Symposium

The International Council for Traditional Music (ICTM) Ireland is hosting a symposium in honour of the collector Tom Munnelly at IT Tralee on Friday, February 29th. The symposium is free to members of ICTM Ireland. A registration fee of €25 (€10 for students) will be charged to non-members.
