Annual Boole Lecture in Informatics

Dr Peter Norvig, director of research at Google, will deliver the annual Boole Lecture in Informatics at UCC today at 8pm in Boole IV lecture theatre.

The lecture is titled The Unreasonable Effectiveness of Data – How Billions of Trivial Data Points can Lead to Understanding. Admission is free and all are welcome.

Music in the Classroom

The Irish Times School Mag Competition

The School Mag competition is now open for entries and all secondary school students are invited to enter. The competition encourages students to challenge their writing and design skills, while working in a team to produce a high-quality publication. CAO College Choice

The CAO College Choice supplement will be published in The Irish Timeson Monday, January 11th, 2010. The supplement will provide guidance and information for all Leaving Cert students on making college choices and filling in the CAO form. Show Racism the Red Card Competion and School Workshops

Show Racism the Red Card is asking teachers, youth and community workers to register to participation in an arts initiative at www.theredcard.ie.

Young people in primary and post-primary schools, Youthreach centres and youth services are asked to watch the Show Racism the Red Card DVD and then to produce a written, visual or audiovisual art piece on the themes arising from the DVD.

The DVD is 17 minutes long and is part of the Show Racism the Red Card education pack. The pack is available on the organisation’s website or can be ordered. Entries must be submitted by February 12th and can be in the form of written journalistic style article, poem, testimony, essay, photograph, painting/picture, song, DVD or a dance.
