Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder Conference

HADD Family Support Group is marking its 25th anniversary with a conference entitled "ADHD - Education, the Vital Link". Royal Hibernian Academy Symposium

Barnardos "Helping Hands" awards for young people

Children's charity Barnardos is calling on all young volunteers to check out the Helping Hands Awards - a competition for young people who give something back to their community through volunteering.

The Helping Hands Awards are open to anyone under the age of 25. Anyone interested can either nominate themselves, or they can be nominated by others, for example teachers or community workers. More information on how to enter the competition is at www.barnardos.ie/ volunteering. The closing date for nominations is November 18th.

Schools' Game-Playing Day To Raise Money For Children With Autism

Ireland's Game Playing Day to help raise funds for special play therapy for children with autism takes place on Friday, October 28th. Schools are being asked to allow children to bring along with their favourite board games to play during the day.

Games manufacturer Hasbro has pledged a hamper of six free MB and Parker board games for every school that takes part in Game Playing Day. For more information and to register log on to www.ngpw.ie.

DIT Lecture Series

As part of a series of lectures celebrating the bicentenary of Sir William Rowan Hamilton, Simon Conway Morris, Prof of Evolutionary Palaeobiology at the University of Cambridge will present a paper - What Evolution Tells Us About Extra-Terrestrials - at DIT Aungier Street on October 18th at 6.30pm. The Adults Continuing Education (ACE) Awards

The ACE Awards mark the National Adult Literacy Agency's (NALA) 25th anniversary. Nominations for the following are now encouraged: tutors, learners, friends, colleagues or family members who are making or have made a great contribution or commitment to adult basic education; people who have increased their self-confidence, career prospects or taken up a life's dream as a result of classes in basic education; companies or organisations that have contributed to the local community through adult education or that have a great internal training scheme; novel or interesting projects that are helping people to develop their skills and increase their basic education levels.
