Nobel Prize winner Prof Ahmed Zewail will give a public lecture entitled "What is Time?" in the Edmund Burke Theatre, Trinity College Dublin at 6 p.m. on Thursday, December 16th.

The lecture will focus on aspects of time and our perception of it throughout history, from calendars to the world of the femtosecond - a split second that is a millionth of a billionth of a second.

The conference programme features more than 25 oral presentations and 50 poster displays on new and ground-breaking research.

The Biotechnology Showcase takes place at IT Carlow from December 15th to 16th. Topics ranging from health and disease, agricultural food and environmental biotechnology and bioanalytical methods will be discussed by life science researchers from the universities, institutes of technology and industry.

Waterford Institute of Technology Christmas Homecoming

The WIT Alumni Association is hosting its first Christmas homecoming event for graduates of the Institute on Tuesday, December 21st in the new Gallery Restaurant at WIT from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Graduate staff awards will be presented to staff who have made a significant contribution to the lives of graduates.

Guide to Medical Schools and Life as a Doctor

A seminar aimed at condensing information about the many options available to people interested in a career in medicine into more concise chunks takes place at University College Dublin from 9.30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on January 15th, 2005.

The course aims to provide information on options for studying medicine, and medicine as a career choice to second level and post-graduate students, teachers and parents.

Career guidance teachers, medical students, junior doctors and consultants will all make a contribution.

Dyslexia In-Service Training Course for Teachers

Pre-booking is now taking place for a number of in-service training days on dyslexia for teachers at Ashbourne Community School, Ashbourne, Co Meath.
