Comhairle has produced the 2004-2005 edition of the Directory of National Voluntary Organisations and Other Agencies. The directory provides a comprehensive listing of voluntary organisations in the Republic and also includes details of State agencies of interest to the voluntary sector. This new edition is fully revised with new organisations, updated contact details and expanded information on organisations, outlining their aims, activities and services.

Young Men on the Margins

A new report, Young Men on the Margins, may be of interest to those concerned with improving the well-being and social inclusion of children, families and communities in Ireland. It is also aimed at those concerned with the relationship between gender and social policy.

The report, which was commissioned and published by The Katharine Howard Foundation and co-funded by the Department of Social and Family Affairs under the Families Research Programme, provides accounts by men aged 18 to 30 of their family relationships and circumstances, their experiences of economic deprivation, the education systemand homelessness and their hopes for changing their lives and integrating into society.

Dyslexia In-Service Training Courses for Teachers

In Dublin city centre, a dyslexia in-service training course for teachers will take place from July 5th to 9th, from 9.30 a.m. to 2 p.m. each day. In Co Laois, the course will be at Mountmellick from July 12th to 16th, from 9.30 a.m. to 2 p.m. each day. There is also an evening course in Ballinteer, Dublin 16, from September to December 2004, on Tuesdays from 7.30 p.m. to 9.30 p.m.

Trinity Women in World Medicine

Celebrating the centenary of the admission of women to TCD, the faculty of health sciences will host a symposium entitled "Trinity Women in World Medicine" on August 28th in the Anatomy Lecture Theatre, Trinity College (registration at 9 a.m.)

Trinity women graduates in health sciences will speak about their involvement in a range of health-related disciplines. Topics will include the history of Irish women in medicine and the key contributions of Trinity graduates to advances in health sciences, from global health to community care. The symposium will be of interest to graduates involved in the development of healthcare at community level and those involved in health issues that transcend national boundaries.

The faculty speakers are: Dr Beulah Bewley DBE, London on "History of Irish Women in Medicine"; Prof Fiona Graeme-Cook, Massachusetts, US on "Colon Cancer: 100 Years of Progress"; Prof Deirdre Kelly, Birmingham on "It's the 'Yelly Jaunders, Doctor' - Advances in Paediatric Liver Disease"; Dr Fiona Mulcahy, Dublin on "Recent Developments in Sexual Health and HIV"; Senator Mary Henry, TCD on "Women's Plight in Africa"; Dr Susan Smith, TCD on "Feminisation of General Practice"; and Prof Moira O'Brien, TCD on "Osteoporosis: Not Just an Old Lady's Disease".

Summer Drama Camp

The Corish Wallace School of Speech and Drama in Wexford is running a summer drama camp, incorporating on-location interviews, performance for television, and stage and film workshops.
