Science in Action Seminar for Teachers Science in Action is a seminar organised by Business in the Community Ireland and hosted at IBM's technology park in Mulhuddart, Co Dublin tomorrow from 9.30am to 1.30pm.

The event aims to achieve greater awareness of the strategic direction of science-based industries among science and career guidance teachers and to establish a closer link between science-based industries and schools. All science teachers are invited to attend.

The Irish Centre for Talented Youth (CTYI) at Dublin City University is launching its annual talent search to identify high-ability children aged six to 16 years throughout the country.

Subjects on offer include archaeology, creative writing, psychology, engineering, and forensic science. Programmes include Saturday classes, summer courses and online correspondence courses.

To qualify for the programme students need to sit an assessment test at one of various locations nationwide. Students can be nominated for this assessment by either parents or teachers. Lunchtime lecture at the Hunt Museum

Decorative Enamels from the Celts to Fabergé is the title of a lecture by Dr Pat Humphreys to be given on Tuesday, October 10th in the Hunt Museum, Limerick. The lecture will move from the Celts to Byzantium to Limoges, through the fashion for the Miniature onto the Golden Age of Russian enamelling which culminated in the work of Fabergé and lastly to the work of today's artists who draw their skills and techniques from the past 2000 years. Admission is free.

Leadership Seminar for Primary Principals

Leadership for Mortals is the title of a one-day seminar by Dr Dean Fink to be held on Wednesday, October 18th at the Castleknock Hotel & Country Club, Dublin.

Post-Primary Humans Rights Campaign

Amnesty International's Voice Our Concern campaign is a post-primary human rights education initiative that uses the arts to enable young people to explore human rights issues.

The Cork Film Festival is hosting a special screening of the films produced by transition-year students under the guidance of professional filmmakers on Thursday, October 12th at 10.30am. This will be followed by short presentations from some of the teachers and students involved. All transition-year students and their teachers are welcome to attend the free event.

Visual art will be the medium used for the next stage of the project in 2007 and Amnesty is inviting applications from schools to take part.

Transition-year students in successful schools will have the opportunity to work with some of Ireland's most dynamic artists.
