CAIRO TO CAPE TOWN:Schools and clubs from across Ireland will take part in fundraisers in aid of Link Community Development on March 26. Link supports schools in Africa and schools and clubs in Ireland, and participating schools or clubs can retain 15 per cent of the funds they raise. Schools will receive a pack of materials and an interactive map of Africa.
DISABILITY AWARENESSTransition Year students at Heywood Community School in Co Laois took part in an unusual disability awareness module late last year. Once a week over six weeks, the group played a number of wheelchair sports, including basketball, goal ball and wheelchair rugby, facilitated by the Sports Inclusion Disability Officer of Laois Sports Partnership and the Mountmellick Development Association.
“We got a better understanding and even an admiration of people with disabilities,” said TY student Daniel Brennan.
