Later this month the Association of Materials, Technology and Graphics Teachers (AMTGT) will holds its annual meeting along with a major exhibition and conference in Ballina, Co Mayo. More than 1,000 visitors are expected to attend. It's an opportunity to view craft and design skills of second-level students. The best projects will be awarded prizes.

Workshops will be held over the twoday event - on Friday, March 19th, between 4 p.m. to 9.30 p.m. and on Saturday, March 20th, between 9 a.m. to 2. p.m. "For students it's a rare opportunity to see the national standard of their peers and to view at close range true craftsmen at work," says Gerry Lynch, national vice-chairman of the AMTGT and conference co-ordinator.

There will also be exhibitions by companies along with demonstrations of woodworking skills and techniques. Computer workshops will include AutoCAD and Internet displays. The workshops will deal with topics from Leaving Cert technical drawing/ construction studies and Junior Cert technology programmes. For information, phone Edward O'Boyle, at 096 21298 or 096 22340.
