What schools did you go to? I went to several primary schools in my early years because we moved around a bit (my father was a Garda). Ultimately, we settled in Connemara and I finished my primary education at Scoil Mhuire an Spidéal and went to secondary school in the same village, Coláiste Chroí Mhuire Gan Smál.

Best subject? I really enjoyed languages, English was probably my favourite.

Worst subject? I didn't like maths very much.

What's the boldest thing you ever did in school? On my first day in school in Spiddal at the age of five, I retaliated when some boys picked nettles (with their pullover sleeves pulled down over their hands) and and went around stinging the legs of the girls in the yard (who were all in short dresses, as was the fashion of the time).

I got into a lot of trouble with the nuns, because I didn't "turn the other cheek!"

Who was the object of your first crush? Probably Tom Cruise: in fairness I still think he's all right!

What was your earliest career ambition? I have absolutely no recollection of this, but my mother swears I turned around at the age of seven and announced I wanted to work in television.

Were you cool or nerdy at school? I reckon I was neither, really.

Did you go to college? Yes, I went to UCG.

What song most reminds you of your school days? It's really difficult to pick one song, at one stage I religiously listened for the Irish/UK number 1s on the radio and devoured Smash Hits every two weeks, but probably A-ha - The Sun Always Shines On TV; Black Box - Ride On Time and Madonna - Into The Groove
