1989: The new Junior Cert syllabi were introduced on a phased basis.

1992: The first examination of the new Junior Cert syllabi were held.

1992: The new Leaving Cert mathematics syllabus was introduced at higher and ordinary level.

1994: The new Leaving Cert Vocational Programme was introduced.

1994: The new Transition Year Programme was introduced.

1995: The new Leaving Cert Applied programme was introduced, and first examined last year.

1995: Seven new leaving Cert syllabi were introduced - Gaeilge, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Accounting and Maths (Foundation level).

1996: The new Leaving Cert Vocational programme was first examined.

1996: The new Junior Cert School Programme was made available nationally.

1996: The new Civic, Social and Political Education programme (replacing civics) at Junior Cert level was introduced on a phased basis.

1997: The seven new Leaving Cert syllabi were examined for the first time.

1997: Two new Leaving Cert syllabi - Music and Business - were introduced.

1999: The new Leaving Cert English syllabus will be introduced. Music and business, Leaving Cert, will be examined for the first time.

2001: The new Leaving Cert English syllabus will be examined for the first time.
