Law is not the exclusive preserve of the universities. Some ITs and private colleges also offer courses. Waterford IT, for instance, has a certificate in legal studies.

Graduates of this course can, subject to exam results, progress to an add-on diploma in legal studies or legal studies in international trade. Graduates of either diploma are eligible to apply to the college's add-on BA in legal and business studies.

Letterkenny IT also offers a two-year certificate in legal studies. Graduates of this course can then apply for a two-year degree in legal studies (with taxation).

DIT runs a popular two-year part-time course which prepares students for entry to the King's Inns and Blackhall Place. Griffith College and Portobello College, Dublin, both offer third-level law courses.
