College's new art collection

ART students and others at Waterford IT can enjoy the advent of an art collection in the college

ART students and others at Waterford IT can enjoy the advent of an art collection in the college. In December 1996 the college decided, in view of its new status, to establish an art collection. The director appointed a committee of staff with relevant expertise.

The embryo collection, which was officially unveiled late last month, features the work of 14 artists and the intention of the committee is that a representative collection of the best contemporary Irish art will be formed. While most of the pieces acquired will be by significant artists with a national or international reputation, the advisory committee is anxious to support local artists and dealers when appropriate.

At present the collection contains works by Michael Ashur, Charles Brady, Mark Francis, Tim Goulding, Marie Hanlon, Ronnie Hughes, Eithne Jordan, Pat Murphy, John O'Connor, Ann O'Regan, Victor Vasarely, Fionnuala Ni Chiosain, Martin Gale, and Paul Seawright
