Quality issues found in preschool tuition as free second year floated

Ireland doesn't have expendable cash. It must use what it has wisely. Investing in our children's education is wise.

As a preschool provider who has just completed a level-eight degree in childcare and education I am sick of the comments on poor quality in preschool. Many of my colleagues have spent several years upgrading their qualifications, and all are very passionate individuals in the work they do. The introduction of a second preschool year may be the lifeline our business needs to stay open.

Croke Park and teachers

There are many people in the public service on €65,000, presumably helped by increments. These proposals are simply unaffordable. The pension-contributions change is particularly worrying considering the fact the unfunded pension liabilities could remain in the red.

Jeremy, do you actually have a job? You seem to spend hours upon hours populating and thus commenting on all journal.ie articles related to the public service. You obviously work in the private sector, and I would like to know what handy job you are remunerated for, as you seem to spend the vast majority of your working week on journal.ie, dictating how public servants should be paid. But, please, if you do work, continue to pay your taxes so I can continue to earn the lofty salaries as a State employee. Oíche mhaith.

Most secondary school teachers in Ireland go on "summer" holidays now and do not return until September 1st. Croke Park, how are ya.

More Susi staff promised to process student grants

The Susi grant people are beyond a joke. I'm finished college and still haven't gotten anything from them.

Susi, why are you being a dose? This is only day one and you're acting the complete pup. All I want is a grant and a new car.

Major exam changes mooted for Northern Ireland

Does the decision mark a step on the road to an all-Ireland education system? British detachment by stealth?

Leaving Cert around the corner

Does life get in any way better when you finish the Leaving Cert? I need to know this.

Just spent 40 minutes on Paddy Power, looking up Leaving Cert predictions. Unsuccessful as ever.
