The British Government approved an order last night to ban two Northern Ireland groups, the Loyalist Volunteer Force and the Continuity Army Council, because of their "appalling acts of terrorism."

The order, which was approved without a vote, will make it an offence for the groups to hold meetings, to be a member of the organisation or collect funds.
