Where did you go to school?

St Michael's University School, Victoria, BC, Canada.

Were you cool or were you one of the nerdy kids?

I was probably cooler out of my school than in it. I had a lot of friends that went to different high schools so I was spoilt for choice on parties and mischief.

Who was your favourite teacher in primary school and why?

My grade two teacher was one of those sweet, beautiful primary teachers. She was lovely, but it was my grade five teacher that made an impression. Mr Vine was hard on me but pushed me to be a better student. I was always getting into trouble for talking and "spacing out" (a bit of a daydreamer), and he would say "Earth to Huston! Come in Huston!" and embarrass me. He even did a stick drawing of me on the chalk board on a planet in space. It worked. He made me want to pay attention.

How about secondary school? Anyone who you liked or inspired you?

Mr Marchand was a brilliant English teacher. He was genuinely excited and passionate about literature. He was an infectious teacher and brought out the A student in me.

Did you have a nickname?

"Husqvarna" or just "Huston" from all my male friends. It started as a Jenny Hussston and The Husss turned to Husqvarna. (A brand of chainsaw I believe!)

What was the first record album you bought?

A K Tel compilation called Radio Activeon Vinyl.

What's on your iPod now?

Pinback, The National, Editors, Unkle, The Shins, Rilo Kiley.

What posters did you have on your bedroom wall?

When I was quite young it was Duran Duran (John Taylor), C Thomas Howell (early Brat Pack), Rob Lowe and Johnny Depp in the 21 Jump Streetdays.

Who was your first crush?

Ricky Shroder, the child actor from Silver Spoons.

Who would play you in a movie of your younger days?

Drew Barrymore.

What did you study in college?

Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology (UVIC), higher diploma in arts administration UCD.

Regrets? Have you had a few?

I wish I had more. I wish I was braver when I was younger.
