An earthquake measuring 6.7 on the Richter scale has struck close to the island of Crete at a depth of 38 kilometers. The quake struck around 129 kilometers south of Iraklion, the island's principal city.
The earthquake was felt as far away as Cairo.
Greek police said they had received no reports of casualties or damage.
