Ludlow - A powerful earthquake measuring 7.0 on the open-ended Richter scale and centred in the California desert rocked a large portion of the south-western United States early on Saturday, derailing a passenger train and knocking out power in parts of the area.
The earthquake jolted millions of people awake in southern California, but no serious injuries were reported.
