An elderly DUP councillor whose Co Tyrone property was set on fire blamed "sectarian" arsonists today.

An outhouse behind the Ballygawley home of Sammy Brush (66), was destroyed overnight.

Mr Brush, who has been singled out several times before, said: "I serve all my constituents to the best of my ability and make not distinction between one religion or another. Yet I am convinced that this attack was motivated by nothing other than sectarianism."

The fire service was called to deal with the blaze.

A PSNI spokesman said: "The information from the owner was that the shed contained tools, gas cylinders and an oil tank.

"The owner has made an allegation that the fire was arson and a full examination of the scene will take place when the danger posed by over-heated gas cylinders has abated."
