The Ulster Unionist Party has rejected a DUP appeal for a compromise unionist candidate in west Tyrone in the forthcoming Westminster elections.

The DUP leader, the Rev Ian Paisley, had suggested that both parties stand down their candidates and find a unity candidate in order to prevent a nationalist victory.
