Limerick brothers Wayne and John Dundon, both serving lengthy sentences for threatening members of the same family, have complained to the High Court about their treatment in different jails.

The brothers claim they have been unjustifiably held in isolation, with restrictions on family visits and educational facilities. A challenge by Wayne to the legality of his treatment in Cloverhill Prison was to have been heard yesterday but was adjourned for a fortnight.

Lawyers for his brother John also made an application before Mr Justice Daniel O’Keeffe yesterday along similar lines of unfair treatment at Midlands Prison, Co Laois. Pádraig Dwyer SC, for both brothers, had suggested the two cases could be heard together on September 25th but David Keane SC, for the State, said documentation could not be prepared in time.

Mr Justice O’Keeffe adjourned the hearing of the application of Wayne Dundon (34) to September 25th. He allowed the case of John (29) to be mentioned on that date but said both applications would not be ready in time to be heard together.
