A large section of Dublin's north side will be without water for the next 24 hours due to a broken water main, Dublin City Council has said.

A large section of Dublin's north side will be without water for the next 24 hours due to a broken water main, Dublin City Council has said.

The council said "major works" are required to fix the break in the Ballycoolin area. Work on the water main had been planned for tomorrow and Saturday and advertisements were placed in newspapers to notify local residents.

However, the main broke and the work now needs to be done today, a spokeswoman said.

The following areas will be without water until 10 a.m. tomorrow morning: Clare Hall; Clonshaugh; Ferrycarrig Estate; Glin Road, Darndale; Macroom Road, Donaghmede; Greencastle Estate; Artane; Bunratty Road; Coolock; Kilmore Road; Kilmore; Kilbarrack; Stockhole Lane; Baldoyle; Sutton; Riverside Estate; Barrycourt Road; Adare Estate; Millbrook; IDA Clonshaugh and all surrounding areas.

Water tankers will be located at Atlantic Homecare car park on Clonshaugh Road and at Aldi car park, Coolock Drive.

Dublin City Council apologised for the inconvenience caused.
