Dublin - Picketers from a new group, Solidarity with Hunger Strikers in Turkey, protested yesterday at the Turkish embassy in Clyde Road, Ballsbridge, in support of the abolition of "isolation prisons" in Turkey, reports David Shanks.
The picket followed the recent death of a prisoner, Veli Gunes, on the 240th day of his fast. The group said that 23 people - prisoners and their supporters - had died in the hunger strike, which began last October. The group's e-mail address is turkeysolidarity@ireland.com
