Gardai are to seek the extradition of a man arrested in London yesterday for questioning in connection with the death of his wife in Dublin more than two years ago.

The man, believed to be Nigerian national Mr Goodwill Udechukwe, was arrested for shoplifting.

Gardai want to speak to him in relation to the death of his partner, 25-year-old Natasha Gray in February 2003.

Ms Gray was found dead in her Grand Canal View flat in Phibsboro, Dublin, after she had been bludgeoned to death.

Last night a garda spokeswoman said officers investigating Ms Gray's murder in February 2003 were in contact with police in London over the man's arrest.

"Gardai involved in the ongoing investigation into the murder of Natasha Gray are liaising with UK authorities regarding the arrest of a man in London yesterday, August 8th," she said.

Mr Udechukwu is expected to appear in Bow Street Magistrates Court today.
