Police in Morocco are investigating the discovery of a Dublin man's body in Tangiers earlier this week.
Andrew Sheehan from Santry, who had been living in Morocco for a number of years, was found dead this week after he was reported missing by his family in May.
A spokesman for the Department of Foreign Affairs confirmed that members of Mr Sheehan's family have travelled to Morocco and that they are being assisted by Irish embassy officials from Lisbon.
Minister for Foreign Affairs Dermot Ahern wrote to the Moroccan authorities in relation to Mr Sheehan's disappearance last month.
Media reports today said Mr Sheehan's body was found buried in a Tangiers suburb and was exhumed.
News agency reports in Morocco claimed that fraud and forgery to get hold of Mr Sheehan's assets may be behind the murder.
Four Moroccans were arrested on Wednesday in connection with the disappearance of Mr Sheehan, a long-time Tangiers resident in his 40s who was last seen on May 8th. He was director of two clothing companies.
The Department of Foreign Affairs spokesman said the question when Mr Sheehan's remains can be repatriated is now one for the Moroccan authorities and for Mr Sheehan's family.
