YesterdaY afternoon Mr Ken Cullen (25) from Blanchardstown, Co Dublin, collected a cheque for £3.3 million - his half of yesterday's jackpot - from the National Lottery.
Looking dazed, Mr Cullen posed with his family and friends for a few photographs but declined interviews with waiting journalists.
All the family would say was that they were looking forward to enjoying their Lotto win in the years to come.
Two £4 Quick Picks won Wednesday's rollover jackpot, which was the second-highest prize money on record. In total £4.2 million was spent by Lotto players on Wednesday when more than 1.5 million payslips were processed by shops around the State. The final jackpot figure was £6,640,485.
A celebration party was still going strong at 6 a.m. yesterday in the Cullen home.
Customers in The Roselawn Inn, where Mr Cullen is a regular, were delighted for the local family. Bar manager Mr Tom Hughes described Mr Cullen as "one of the lads; he's a sound fella" and said "he'll probably be in for a pint soon".
All members of the Cullen family were enjoying some days off work. Parents Joan and Vincent served breakfast to the waiting journalists and camera crews outside the house. The other family members are Karen (23), Kim (21) and Dave (20).
The Galway winner of the other £3.3 million had not come forward by yesterday evening. The ticket was bought at McGuire's newsagents at Raven's Terrace, near the city centre. Mr Arthur McGuire, the owner of the shop, said there had been a lot of speculation throughout the day concerning the winner. Almost 1,000 people had purchased tickets in the shop for Wednesday's draw.
"We have a couple of bottles of champagne and 12 glasses here and we are just dying to open them," he said. "We are hoping that the winner is a local but we have no way of knowing until they come forward."
