A Dublin man accused of raping his elderly mother two years ago on Mother’s Day at her home in Ballyfermot has been further remanded in custody by Judge Ann Watkin at Cloverhill District Court.

The 43-year-old man was arrested in Stepney, east London, and was extradited to Ireland last week. He was later charged before Dublin District Court and was remanded in custody.

He is charged with raping his 70-year-old mother on March 2nd, 2008. He is also charged with sexually assaulting her.

He later failed to appear in Kilmainham District Court to answer the sexual assault charge and a bench warrant was issued for his arrest.

There was no application for bail yesterday and Judge Watkin remanded him in custody for two weeks for mention.
